How was your first event or encounter with Possibilize?

I had finished my studies and I didn't really know what I wanted to do. I had started a job and wanted to do something else, so I asked my old internship supervisor Sophie Molenaar if I could do volunteer work with her. She then put me in touch with Possibilize, where I could participate in the Conn-act project. I started doing that in 2015 and I did everything for it, recruiting trainees, organizations and schools, developing training courses, developing working methods and much more. From moment one it was really a warm bath, a kind of family and that was also very contrasting with my other workplace at that time, that was a less pleasant experience. I also remember well that at the first Power of Possibilize meeting, a meeting once every two months with the entire Possibilize team, that my Moving Moment, a moment you share from the past two months that has inspired or touched you, was about that great team feeling that really fits my values. Values such as thinking and acting in possibilities, always looking at what someone can do, seeing a person for who they are and not filling in things for someone else. That equal way of working, that you can always contribute something whether you are the CEO or an intern, means that, in addition to what I mentioned above, I still enjoy working here as a freelancer on many projects.

What has touched or inspired you most during your work at Possibilize?

I find it very valuable that we can give people a new insight. Sometimes people mainly look at someone's limitation, at what someone cannot do and Possibilize provides an insight that shows you how that limitation makes someone powerful and that you can also learn from it. I find that very inspiring and important. After Connect I also started at Sencity Kids to do the training in the classroom, one of my first trainers jobs. I did that together with another trainer, a deaf lady, from whom I was able to learn a lot. I find that quite normal myself, I see her as an equal and as someone from whom I can learn, but I have also noticed that there are many people who do not have that as their first thought. In those training sessions she really stood in her strength and people were able to see that being deaf does not entail any limitations, but that she can do just as much as someone who is hearing. In addition, she is even sharper when it comes to non-verbal communication. Building those bridges between worlds, so that they can learn more from each other, gives me energy and drive to continue.

What of Possibilize do you take with you in your personal mission?

My values and way of thinking have only been more confirmed by Possibilize's work and have also become more emphasized in my work, both at Possibilize and elsewhere. What has supported that emphasis and what I learned at Possibilize is strong language use. I can sometimes feel insecure at work, especially when I just started. So I wanted to grow to the point where you really use strong language and also have the guts to sometimes ask that sharp question. That you don't just participate in the conversation, but that you shed light on a different perspective and hold up a mirror to someone by questioning someone's prejudices. Because we all have prejudices, that is human nature and it is good to become aware of them, so that you know whether you want to continue with them or do something with them. I challenge you to keep developing and growing. Be open to people and be curious, don't give in. Just go and do it, go and experience that it works and if it doesn't work, be honest about it and ask support from others. Together we move forward.
