How was your first event or encounter with Possibilize?

I started at Possibilize in 2009 as an intern. I remember well that I came to talk to Ronald Ligtenberg, that was the first inspiring moment right away. I've always had a fascination with making something out of nothing. At a festival you start with an empty lawn. You arrive with a few guys and a few trucks with fences and junk and make it a totally different world. A world where you can fall in love, be lame for the first time or regret something stupid. When that festival is over, the whole world will no longer be found. Sencity takes this a step further, because they realize that in that experience they have the opportunity to steer something in the experience, something that people take with them. Many festivals miss that opportunity, while it is especially cool to do so. I was immediately inspired by the fact that Sencity takes the opportunity to give its visitors a social meaning.

What has touched or inspired you most during your work at Possibilize?

Meanwhile I have already experienced around 20 Sencity's with many inspiring moments. But if I had to choose a moment, it would be the Sencity Festival in 2019. When I was allowed to take over the project management from 2015, I started to give it my own twist. I asked myself: “What would Sencity look like if I organized it for the first time now?” And then I came to the festival variant. I worked on that for a number of editions and when I put it down for the second time in Tivolivredenburg in 2019, all the puzzle pieces fell into place. From the program to the layout to the location, everything was right. Many years of work came together, with a vision that I had long before.

What of Possibilize do you take with you in your personal mission?

The mindset is the most inspiring thing about Possibilize. There is always a possibility and the cliché of "can't, doesn't exist" is also true. That is in all aspects and in language use that is perhaps the most, if people sometimes say: "are you coming to a party" then people often respond with "I can't", but that is not true. You can, you just choose to do something different and sometimes it can feel like that choice is not an option. You can make a different choice, but you don't feel like experiencing the consequences of that choice. That thought also gives me freedom in my head, because you never end up in a situation because of someone else, because you always have a choice. That's why I don't really believe in regrets. I assume that you made the best possible choice with the information you had at the time. In retrospect you can easily say that you should have done something differently, but that is with the knowledge of today. Even afterwards you have to stand behind that, because it has also made you who you are.
